Residential Trainer FT, Relief, and PT Evenings, Weekends, and Overnights

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Residential Trainer provides protective oversight, instruction and supervision of residents in all aspects of daily living including recording and dispensing of medication and implementation of Residential Habilitation Plans.

 Note: “medication certification” is a requirement for all persons employed full time as a Residential Trainer.  In the event the Residential Trainer I loses medication certification privileges, the person will become a Residential Trainer II, until such time as the individual regains medication certification.

   RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1.    Person Centered-Provides direct instruction and supervision of residents in areas of daily living; including but not limited to,      money  management, utilization of community recreation and emergency services, transportation, household maintenance and housekeeping responsibilities.  
  2.    Person Centered-Implements and provides input into the development of the Individual Program Plans.
  3.    Person Centered-Continually assesses the program participant’s initial and progressively changing needs, adapting training methodology and scope of information, to meet the individual’s current status.
  4.    Person Focused-Utilizes a proactive, positive approach when interacting with program participants.  Coordinates resident meetings to promote self-advocacy.
  5.    Accountable-Provides protective oversight for all Residential Program Participants.
  6.    Accountable-Completes all billing and agency documentation timely and accurately.
  7.    Accountable-Records and dispenses resident’s medication, supervises personal hygiene and assists in obtaining proper medical care including all treatment charts (e.g. Device Maintenance Charts, Dietary tracking, etc.)
  8.    Accountable-Responsible to follow all requirements described in the Agency Corporate Compliance Program and in state and
  9.  federal regulations governing our programs, including all documentation and billing requirements.
  10.    Accountable-Maintains and/or obtains all trainings and certifications as required by the agency.
  11.  Integrity-Displays conduct in accordance with the agency mission, values and attributes at all times.
  12.  Stewardship-Demonstrates smart use and ownership in the utilization of agency resources.
  13.  Teamwork-Serves as an effective team member in order to provide quality services. This includes active communication,information sharing, and displaying professionalism.
  14.  Collaboration-Communicates with residents, families, and the treatment team, as needed.
  15.  Collaboration-Participates in general staff meetings, in-service training and other pertinent agency and community program meetings (i.e. Clinical Team meetings, Annual and Semi-annual individuals Residential Habilitation Plan).
  16.  Flexible-Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor, including tasks and responsibilities for the agency and department. 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Ability to develop good working relationships with staff and other professionals good verbal and written communication skills; ability to develop effective relationships with diverse group of residents; knowledge of developmental disabilities, training methods and techniques. May need to drive own or agency vehicle for self-transportation. Will need to drive agency vehicle for resident transportation. Ability to work effectively in a team setting.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate of Arts Degree in the field of human services, Psychology, or closely related field OR High School graduate (or GED) with six (6) months experience or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities AND Valid New York State Drivers License, unless otherwise specified.
